Ékè

Ékè translates to “creation” in Igbo and is used to connote the divine spirit responsible for the act of creation. l created a custom wordmark for the African Puzzles and Games brand that aims to bring more Afro-centered family fun to the African diaspora and engender confidence and wonder in gamers of African descent. The palette for this project was inspired by outdoor child’s play - think of wire cars, stick forts, and mud houses. The idea was to tap into a familiar sense of exploration, adventure, and overall creativity. I also made use of various grainy and noisy textures to further emphasize the outdoors. Additionally, the palette also complements my client’s village of origin, where the soil is blood red and there are plenty of palm trees. My other objective was to link the wordmark back to the concept of a puzzle; and hence the cutouts.
